Rendez-Vous: in collaboration with The Marais Project

Nothing compares to the splendour of Paris during the reign of King Louis XIV. An absolute monarch, Louis loved the arts and spent an enormous amount of money surrounding himself with the best musicians, painters, and architects. He assembled the greatest orchestra in Europe, commissioned operas and even danced in ballets for his courtiers to admire. His palace and gardens at Versailles still attract hundreds of thousands of visitors a year. Louis was 1970s Glam Rock on steroids! But the music of this time was also delicate, thoughtful, and even spiritual. It can take your breath away…

Rendez-vous is a cross-continent collaboration between HIP Company and Sydney’s The Marais Project, widely acknowledged experts in French music. Together, the two ensembles bring a new energy and a fresh eye to the French Baroque, in the beautiful artist-run Peach Black Gallery.

The programme includes music by Couperin, Marais, Boutellier, the enigmatic Sainte-Colombe, and the composer with the most wonderful name ever, Michel Pignolet de Montéclair!

Featuring The Marais Project’s Susie Bishop (soprano and violinist), Jenny Eriksson (viola da gamba) and Tommie Andersson (lute and theorbo), with HIP Company’s Bonnie de la Hunty (soprano), Sarah Papadopoulos (violin) and Krista Low (viola da gamba).

Doors open at 6pm for the 7-8pm concert. Tickets $15 via Peach Black Gallery.
